In a bit of seridepity, just as I was starting this blog I found out that my favorite running shop was holding a contest to recruit runners for an upcoming ad campaign. Now, to say that Jack Rabbit Sports is my favorite running shop is a bit of an understatement, as they are pretty much my ONLY running shop — ever since I bought my first pair of running shoes there back in 2006 they are the only place I’ve gone for shoes, and on any given run 90-100% of what I’m wearing is from there.
Anyway, they are launching a spring and summer add campaign entitled “Run for the Rabbit.” They will pick six participants, who will train for the Hamptons marathon in September; each participant will have a chosen charity, and the six will compete not in the marathon itself, but in how much money they can raise for their charity. The participants get free one-on-one and group training; three pairs of shoes; a clothing, gear, and nutrition stipend; and an HD video-camera to vlog about the experience. Depending on how you do at fundraising, there are also some pretty awesome prizes, plus the fun of being in an print and TV ad campaign.
Its a long shot, but I figure what the hell, right? I want to run a marathon this year, and the training could set me up nicely for an ultra later in the fall. So keep your fingers crossed for me.
In the mean time, I should get to bed — I’m planning on running to work tomorrow morning, about 16 miles, and there is supposed to be snow. Hopefully, I’ll have a wonderful, snowy run to write about tomorrow . . .
