Making it Work (3.5 miles)

I really have nothing to say about today’s run, other than it proves I can keep running, even with my new, crazier life.  I was tired from little sleep, not happy about going back to work, and generally stressed, but I forced myself off the train and High Street to run the 3.5 miles home.

It was slow, both because I was exhausted and I was trying to to easy on my knee.  I think that upping my milage by 30% last week, did, as I feared, have some detrimental affects, mainly that my right knee is tight for the first time in forever.  Since that was a lingering injury that haunted me for months, I’m icing it multiple times a day and stretching as often as I can remember, and I kept today’s run slow so I could focus on good running form.

And I made it home.  Notch one run as a full-time teacher and father of two!

Distance: 3.5 miles          Time: 34:38

About Chris Van Dyke

I am a 33 year-old high school English teacher and long-distance runner. I live in Brooklyn with my partner, our 3 year-old son and 1 year-old daughter and a growing collection of muppets and trains. Besides running and teaching I like to draw, read, write, cook, and play the harmonica. While I didn't get to run my first ultra-marathon on my birthday, I've got a few more I've set my sights on. You can follow my (seldom updated) twitter feed @aboutrunning. I also blog as part of the Run Smiley Collective.
